“A new LEED Gold Certified facility establishes a fresh face for the Authority”

Located between the Credit River and Old Dairy Road in Mississauga, the Credit Valley Conservation building houses the Head Office of Operations for the Authority.

Situated in front of an existing structure, the new building provides a fresh identity for the Authority and better communicates the CVC’s mission of conserving, restoring, developing and managing natural resources on a watershed.

A glazed corridor links the new facility to the existing office building and creates a new, sheltered courtyard that provides quiet outdoor space for staff recreation. The courtyard benefits from an existing mature tree that was saved during construction and provides users with both a beautiful landscape and protection from the elements. The building placement at the edge of the valley provides fantastic views from staff offices to the Credit River below.

While adding visual interest and animation to the main elevation, a large steel and wood trellis also works to provide shading to the generously glazed building exterior.  The trellis has been designed to support the future growth of vines and plants in further support of the CVC’s environmental mandate.

In addition to the shading provided by the trellis, many innovative sustainable strategies were implemented.  The parking lot was paved using high-albedo permeable unit pavers, high efficiency gas-fired boilers are utilized which feed an in-slab hot water radiant heating system and the cooling system is a variable refrigerant volume fan-coil system which is new to Canada.  Operable windows provide ample natural light and fresh air to building users.  Lighting is controlled by occupancy and daylight sensors.  All of these initiatives resulted in LEED Gold Certification for the facility.
