“Contemporary design that creates a dialogue with the heritage character of the street”
A historic Queen Street West storefront building creates the centerpiece for this 16,000 sf retail development.
The project includes careful restoration of the heritage elements of the existing building, while adding a new storefront addition in the adjacent lot to the East. The new storefront facade is intended to serve as a catalyst for Queen Street’s vibrant transformation into a popular retail destination. The massing and articulation of the new addition recedes and folds to create a dialogue with the heritage building next door, rather than simply mimicking it. The receding fold is also designed to maintain the three dimensional characteristics of the heritage building, which is one of its most important attributes. The top floor is further set back to present a backdrop for the two storefront facades; creating roof top terrace space for two potential future residential units.
The development is currently targeting a LEED Gold certification.
