Extendicare Timmins achieves LEED Silver Certification

Extendicare Timmins is a 180-bed long term care home located in downtown Timmins.  The two-storey facility is inspired by the aesthetic of a grand hotel, maintaining its strong residential character within the surrounding neighbourhood.

Grouped around three internal courtyards, residents live in clusters of three 30-bed Resident Home Areas, each with their own lounges, dining and activity areas.  Extendicare Timmins offers many home-like amenities, including a private dining room for residents and families, an overnight room for visitors, a library, an internet cafĂ©, a kitchenette, and a games room.  A featured fireplace lounge evokes a traditional, warm environment for staff, residents and visitors.

Shared social spaces filled with natural light, courtyards and abundant walking trails allow residents to fully enjoy their surroundings.

The home features many water conservation strategies such as dual flush toilets, low flow fixtures, and native plant species that do not require irrigation systems.  Low VOC emitting materials were used throughout the home and superior daylight and views are provided to 90% of building occupants.
